2010 is now well and truly bedded in. Most of us are back at work (properly now, thanks snow!), our resolutions have already been firmly broken and desks across the country have been re-littered with random notes and screwed up paper balls. One thing that can also be guaranteed from this point in the year on, is the increasing amount of Blu-ray releases and this week is in keeping with the trend. Granted, there are not a huge amount of 'major' titles heading to our beloved format this week but we do have a few classics making their HD debut along with the now seemingly customary classical releases (just where are they all coming from!?). We kick off this weeks What's New In Blu? With some time travelling Tardis action in Dr Who: The Complete Specials.

Dr Who: The Complete Specials
(2 Entertain Video | 2009 | Rated 12)
This latest Blu-ray venture for the countries most familiar doctor includes all of the special episodes, including those broadcast throughout 2009, climaxing in David Tennant's last ever appearance (and Matt Smith's first) as the Doctor in the recently aired End Of Time two-part episode. In addition to this emotional farewell, we also see double in The Next Doctor when our titular star invests the surprise help of another doctor in a bid to battle the rise of the Cybermen. Planet Of The Dead sees the fight against a deadly, earth-bound swarm, while The Waters Of Mars (arguably the better known of the episodes) involves a scrap to save all of mankind. Extras include audio commentary on some of the adventures, plus deleted scenes and Dolby Digital Stereo sound. There is also a David Tennant video diary of his last days on the set of the iconic series.

Antichrist

(Artificial Eye | 2009 | 108 mins | Rated 18)
This controversial film explores the somewhat shaky ground of human grievance after a couples loss of their young son. Lars Von Trier, director of Dogville and Manderlay, is the man behind the mayhem as it were when the couple, played by Williem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsburg, experience the death of their offspring. In order to grieve alone, they find refuge in a place called Eden, a remote forest cabin but all is not well down in the woods. The film details the parents anguish as they battle to overcome their loss by participating in bizarre and at times, brutal rituals. Nature is not on their side either, when they encounter some disturbing creatures that lead to manic actions and troubling scenes. Set over four chapters, Antichrist has raised some criticism with its use of graphic sexual violence but was a hit amongst many critics.

10 Things I hate About You (10th Anniversary Edition)
(Disney/Buena Vista | 1999 | 97 mins | Rated 12)
Finally, if the blood and guts scene just isn't your thing, then you can't get further away from it than with this comedy classic, a modern day adaptation of Shakespeare's The Taming of the Shrew. Starring Julia Stiles and the late Heath Ledger we follow the story of Bianca Stratford, the pretty and popular girl who has been banned from dating until her older sister, Kat does so. On realisation of this by her admirer, Cameron, he pays a would-be suitor to ask out Kat who is renowned for her dislike of the male-kind. What follows is a hilarious look at the lengths men will go to in order to get a date with a pretty face. Extras include a special 10th Anniversary Edition documentary on the film, as well as commentaries. With deleted scenes thrown into the mix as well, this is a must-have for fans of the film and comedy in general to be honest (not forgetting all you closet chick flick fans out there!).
