The hottest new releases 8th February
New In Blu

It seems the glut of titles making their way to Blu-ray has stemmed somewhat this week and with the release line up coming up over the next few weeks, it's hardly surprising. In fairness we have been spoilt in the last two weeks or so with a vast range of titles adding to our ever increasing HD bounty. That said, there are still a total of eight new releases this week, some of which performed very well in the box office sales area and so there is no reason as to why their home releases should be any different. We start this week's New In Blu with a comical look at troubles faced by couples across the globe on a daily basis in Couples Retreat.

Couples Retreat

(Universal Studios | 2009 | 113 mins | Rated 15)

Vince Vaughan stars in this comedy filled title that follows four couples' holiday to a tropical paradise, having been enticed by bargain basement pricing. What they didn't bargain for however, was the intense couples therapy that came included in the cost. Dave, played by Vaughan and partner Ronnie (Malin Akerman), along with three other couples find themselves delving into the depths of their souls, searching for something they didn't expect to on the luxury getaway. Resort owner, Marcel (Jean Reno) has some odd counselling techniques which include swimming with sharks and intimate yoga sessions with the amorous individual. Instead of experiencing the holiday of a lifetime, they soon get embroiled in a fight to save their marriages, to joy and hilarity of the viewing audience. The Blu-ray release comes packed with commentary from Director Peter Billingsly as well as Vince Vaughan himself. Deleted scenes, a gag reel and even an alternate ending come loaded as extras too.

The Ugly Truth

(Sony Pictures | 2009 | 96 mins | Rated 15)

Abbey Richter (Katherine Heigl) is an unlucky-in-love morning TV producer and on the return from yet another poor date, she calls into a show hosted by Mike Chadway (Gerard Butler) called "The Ugly Truth." She winds up having an on-air argument over his cynical theories on love and is in for a shock on her return to work the next day. When it is revealed that her show is in jeopardy thanks to ailing viewer figures, Mike is the man hired to rectify the situation. When Abbey meets what she feels is the man of her dreams, Mike wants to put his theories to the test and as a result she follows his lead. If successful, their working relationship will be allowed to flourish but failure will see an end to the partnership. Deleted and extended scenes will feature on the Blu-ray release as well as an alternative ending. The title will also be fully compatible with MovieIQ and comes with an amusing gag reel.

The Time Traveller's Wife

(Entertainment In Video | 2009 | 107 mins | Rated 12)

Based on the novel of the same name, The Time Traveller's Wife centres around the building of a relationship between Clare (Rachel McAdams) and Henry (Eric Bana), the latter of which carries a rare genetic disorder. The inherited anomaly makes Henry randomly time travel, which results in long periods of separation for the couple. Convinced that he is the love of her life and that the two are soul mates, Clare does everything in her power to make the bond work and is determined build a life together. Matters are not helped however, by the fact that starting a family is near impossible for the couple due to their unborn foetuses inheriting the disorder. A secret vasectomy is just the start of the twist and turns in this tale of woe. The Blu-ray release will come with the digital copy in tow and feature the Unconventional Love Story featurette.
