There are a range of different weeks in the world of Blu-ray. Some weeks are jam packed full of AAA titles giving us many a dilemma over where to place our hard earned cash. Other weeks there are barely any titles to speak of at all. And then there are weeks like this one that sees one absolute gem which stands head and shoulders above all others surrounding it, leaving a clear option as to where your money is going. This week's gem comes in the form of Michael Jackson's This Is It, which we Blu-ray fans actually had to wait for due to the film's successful stint in cinemas being prolonged from its planned two week appearance due to popular demand. On that note, stop what you are doing, wait for the spotlight to appear above you and shine up your finest Rhine stoned glove as we get this week's New In Blu underway.

Michael Jackson's This Is It
(Sony Pictures | 2009 | 111 Mins | PG)
When we lost one of the world's greatest ever entertainers back in June 2009, just eight days before he was due to travel to our UK shores, a whole international network of fans were left distraught. Michael Jackson had been hand crafting what would have been one of the biggest and best shows to date and in This Is It we get a glimpse at what we would have seen at the O2 Arena. Directed by Kenny Ortega, this film condenses what is reported to have between 80 and 100 hours of rehearsal footage into a 111 minute clip in comparison. We also get to see exclusive interviews with cast members, technicians and crew as they guide us from song to song of this planned epic. In terms of Blu-ray extras, we get the all new vignettes from Thriller and Smooth Criminal (which are exclusive to the BD format). It also comes loaded with BD Live featuring MovieIQ with the This Is It playlist. As well as a host of other extras, another Blu-ray exclusive is a booklet featuring previously unseen photos taken from the set.

9
(Universal Studios | 2009 | 80 Mins | 12)
Tim Burton, the twisted mind behind The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Corpse Bride returns with this similarly styled film. This time he has joined forces with the brains behind Wanted and Nightwatch, Timur Bekmambetov to produce this film, from director Shane Acker. 9 is set in the not-too-distant future where the titular star (voiced by Elijah Wood) finds himself in a human free world, controlled by machines. After finding others created by scientists in a last ditch attempt to save their world, 9 convinces them that hiding would be futile and that aiming straight for the heart of these ruling machines is the only way to guarantee survival. We watch as they fight some of the biggest and meanest enemies they are ever likely to experience in a bid to save their world. Blu-ray extras include deleted scenes, an original short with commentary and a separate commentary on the feature itself.

Jennifer's Body
(20th Century Fox | 2009 | 102 Mins | 15)
Jennifer Check (Megan Fox) and Anita "Needy" Lesnicki (Amanda Seyfried) are the friendship version of chalk and cheese. Needy is an insecure and under confident individual while Jennifer is confident, popular and a hit with the boys. When Jennifer takes Needy to a concert hosting bar, a mysterious fire breaks out and the featured band take Jennifer amidst the commotion. They take her to a woods, where she is offered to Satan as a virgin sacrifice in return for fame and fortune. Unbeknownst to the band however is the fact that Jennifer is not a virgin (shocking, huh?). On realisation of this, the band's leader murders her. It is at this point that a demonic spirit takes over her body and a male seducing and killing spree ensues. Can her best friend stop her and bring an end to the death toll? Deleted scenes and a gag reel come as part of Blu-ray extras.
